Course Info

The field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) is an exciting and rewarding career that involves teaching English to non-English speakers outside of English-speaking countries. As people around the world continuously strive to become proficient in English -- the international language of communication and information, business and trade, technology and travel -- the demand for TEFL-qualified instructors continues to grow.

If you are interested in teaching English overseas, looking for an exciting and new career, or simply want to improve your second-language teaching skills, the English Language Centre's TEFL course is right for you. The course is designed for both native and non-native speakers of English.

The TEFL course consists of the following:

  • Theories of language teaching and learning
  • Techniques for teaching speaking and listening
  • Techniques using the communicative approach for teaching vocabulary, grammar and phonology
  • An opportunity to develop your teaching skills as you study
  • 40 hour of classroom instruction
  • 20 hours of practicum (optional)
  • A parchment of completion (upon successful completion of the course)

Entry Requirements:

  • Successful applicants must be capable of using English well, so we require non-native English speakers to be approved by the instructor before registering for the course.
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Please note: The English Language Centre's TEFL course was developed by the University of Saskatchewan, Extension Division (based on TEFL 11). A University of Saskatchewan CERTESL-TEFL 11 credit may be obtained by students who opt to take the University of Saskatchewan's final exam at a cost of $50.00.
