If you want employers knocking on your door, a two-year diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology is your welcome mat; the field is exploding and Lethbridge College grads are in high demand both near and far!
Geomatics is the practice of gathering and interpreting location information about the physical environment. It brings together surveying and mapping with widely popular technologies like global positioning systems (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), and satellite image analysis. Our practical two-year diploma will prepare you to be part of these rapidly growing fields – with great jobs in areas ranging from surveying and land management to law enforcement and the armed forces.
In year one of the program, we’ll give you a comprehensive introduction to engineering fundamentals. Using hands-on exercises, we introduce you to surveying, mapping and data collection techniques. You’ll learn about computer-assisted drafting and physical geography plus how to interpret images of the Earth’s surface. In second year, you’ll hone your skills at collecting high precision location data as well as learn how to map and analyze it using industry-standard software applications.
With your diploma in hand and a track record of virtually 100 per cent employment, you can use the combination of technical knowledge, interpretative skills and hands-on experience to step straight into the workplace. Or if you prefer to take your studies to the next level, you can leverage your education at Lethbridge College by transferring into year three of a Bachelors degree concentrating on Geographical Information Science at the University of Lethbridge.
