Lethbridge College
will be extending the reach of its leadership development program Foundations of Leadership to audiences
in northern Canada.
Beginning in February, this five-module professional development program will be
delivered to the Gwichya Gwich'in Band in the Tsiigehtchic Charter Community,
located 130 kilometres southwest of Inuvik,
NWT.
"Working closely with the First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities is one of the priorities of our institution," says Dr. Tracy Edwards, Lethbridge College president and CEO. "We are pleased the college's reputation for providing-leading edge training opportunities is now fostering new connections in other regions of Canada."
Ethel
Blake of the Gwichya Gwich'in Band has been liaising with the Lethbridge
College Business Training and Development department since November. "The Foundations of Leadership program will equip community members with the skills required for success in any industry," says Blake. "Program participants will have increased opportunities for employment within the Gwichya Gwich'in Band in Tsiigehtchic, the greater band community and across the Northwest Territories."
In
order to ensure delivery excellence, an instructor from Lethbridge College's
Business Training and Development department will be travelling to Tsiigehtchic
to lead the training. "Our flexibility and willingness to meet the needs of a wide variety of client groups has been a critical component to the success of the program and the department to date," says Sean Miles, program administrator for Business Training and Development.
Popular
throughout southern Alberta,
the Foundations of Leadership program
is based on the
theories of renowned leadership experts John Kotter, Steven Covey, Robin
Sharma, James Kouzes and Barry Posner and Daniel Goleman, among others. The Lethbridge College Business Training and Development department creates training solutions that provide organizations and employees with the skills and tools to achieve personal career goals and increase satisfaction, efficiency and productivity in the workplace, at home and in the community. |
